Seismic damage assessment of a monolithically precast subway station structure

Abstract: Based on a real subway engineering project at Beijing, large scale shaking table model tests of the site-monolithically precast subway structure were performed. The damage conditions of the prefabricated model components were assessed and the positions of the damaged joints were identified. The influence of the joints’ damage on the structural integrity was then analyzed. Results show that the bottom joints of the left wall, right wall and the right column of basement-1, and both top, bottom joints of the left column of basement-2 were damaged. The components have some little relative displacement at the joint regions. However, because both the material nonlinear responses and the accumulated story drift were small, the degree of the damage were not great and the seismic performance of the station was good. In addition, because there were relative displacement responses between the walls and slabs, the seismic performance could not be evaluated using the story drift angle acquired via the relative displacement between the middle of two slabs. Therefore, the top-bottom relative displacement of the most unfavorable lateral resisting components is recommended to be used as an index to evaluate the seismic performance of the rectangular precast underground structure.
