improvement of Discrete Element Method and its Applications in Granular Media

The improvement of the Cundall’s discrete element model is made on the basis of elasticity theory and is reported in this paper. Two constitutive models with linearly-varying stiffness and constant non-linear stiffness are proposed. The improved discrete element method is used in the calculation and analysis of the deformation and mechanical processes of granular media and satisfactory results are obtained.
