Stress-strain Analysis of Earth-rock Dams with Asphalt Concrete Core

This paper analyzes the effects of wetting deformation on earth-rock dams during reservoir filling. An experimental method of wetting is introduced, the result of the experiment indicates that it is impossible to gain the wetting deformation from the comparison between dry and saturated stress-strain curves, which has to use the test method with stress control. In the paper, the finite element method regarding the effects of wetting and creep analysis of asphalt concrete core are studied. The calculated results of the stress and strain correspond with the actual measurement of some completed earth-rock dams.
