Distribution of regional soils in China and formation of their special geotechnical properties

In China, various regional soils distribute in different regions, e.g., loess soils in northern China, lateritic soils in southern China, clayey soils in central China and marine soils near the shore and coastline in southeast China. The special geotechnical properties of these soils have been described respectively. In this paper, the mechanial, physico-chemical and microfabric test results are summarized, then the geographic distribution and the special geotechnical properties of regional soils are studied synthetically. It is shown that these are dependent on climatic condition and geographic environment in China.
