Experimental study on influences of fines content and consolidation stress on shear modulus and damping ratio of saturated sand

    • The dynamic shear modulus and damping ratio are the two main parameters for describing the dynamic characteristics of soil. The tests on the saturated sand under isotropically consolidation by TSH-100 resonant column apparatus made by GCTS Instruments Ltd. from the USA are performed, and the effects of fines contents (FC) and consolidation stress on the dynamic shear modulus and damping ratio are analyzed. The results show that under different consolidation stress levels, the effects of fines contents on the dynamic shear modulus and damping ratio of sand are the same. When 0≤FC≤10%, the dynamic shear modulus of sand decreases and the damping ratio increases with the increase of fines content. When 10%
