Finite element program is developed to investigate the “bump” mechanics model at bridge approaches .After examining the character of stresses and displacements within the backfill behind bridge abutments,mechanism of geonets-soil interaction and soil stabilization is obtained.Results from this study have been checked by in situ measurement and model test.Theoretical foundation is provided to widely use geonets.
