The stress states in the various typical point-loaded rock specimens have been systematically investigated with the boundary least square collocation method. Some conclusions are obtained and certain opinions are proposed. A formula to determine the tensile strength as well as the corresponding graph and table its modified coefficient are furnished as a reference to the experiments. These provide evidences for the further through study of the point-load test with irregular specimens.
