  • This  paper  outlines  an  experimental  and  computaional  study  of  constitutive  relations  of  rocks,  including  sandstone,granite,  and  limestone.    Plate  impact  experiments  were  conducted  by  means  of  a  gas  gun.    A  Lagrangian  analysis  presents  for a  series  of  stress  histories.    The  procedure  for  fitting  a  stress  time  distance  surface  is  described.    From  fitted  surface  are  obtained  the  derivatives  of  the  flow  variables.    Mechanical  properties  and  deformation  characteristics  of  rocks  under  strong  impact  loading  are  analysed.
