At the stages of feasibility research and design for a dam,to fit geological conditions and to fully utilize the local rock materials,core wall dam and concrete face rockfill dam were studied and compared to decide the dam type.Clay soils and weathered rocks near the dam site were sampled and tested to investigate the physical,chemical,permeability and strength properties.Finite element numerical analyses were taken to examine the safety of dam.A brief introduction about the tests and numerical analyses was given and the choice of the dame type was described.
