Abstract
The paper presents a damage localization bifurcation model for rock concrete like materials. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the occurrence of damage localization were discussed and the critical hardening modulus and localization orientation were presented. Several simple cases were discussed and the results were verified by numerical simulations of FEM. The model is applied to the cracking simulation of the heel of an arch dam during the course of impounding.
